المستخلص [English] Abstract: |
Knowledge is one of the major philosophical sectors that kept philosophers occupied a long time ago. There is no doubt that Muslim philosophers paid attention to knowledge and dedicated many texts to it, which contributed immensely to the field. Al-Farabi, the focus of this paper, is one of such contributors. The knowledge issue is branched from another issue, which is equally important, which is communication, which had been a concern for most Muslim philosophers, including Al-Farabi. The communication issue is deeply related to the knowledge theory, since communication is based on knowledge, while being its outcome and purpose. Al-Farabi is one of the first Muslim philosphers who paid attention to this issue as he tried to deal with it and theorize about a solution. However, that is no produced in a single pamphlet, but as scattered opinions across his ouvre. This topic has been selected to unravel the relationship between knowledge and communication as viewed by Al-Farabi, whose main goal was to achieve happiness and finding ways to achieve it by means of thinking and knowledge. This paper follows an analytical approach, which is appropriate to the topic of study which is reliant on Al-Farabi’s analytical method in the theories of knowledge and communication. This approach also reveals how far they are related. The paper is divided into four parts: contextualizing Al-Farabi, Al-Farabi’s view of knowledge which negotiates concepts of physical and mental knowledge, Al-Farabi’s view of communication which explains the concept of communication, and finally the fourth part highlights the relationship between knowledge and communication revealing how deeply they are related. The conclusion of the paper illustrates a set of results. |
